About Botox

In our London practice, we mostly use anti-wrinkle injections for dynamic lines but also occasionally for static lines.

Dynamic lines are the lines that appear and are exaggerated with facial movements. In other words, whenever we smile or frown, creases in the skin appear and slowly become permanently present. Our anti-wrinkle injections are the preferred choice to treat these kinds of wrinkles.

Static Lines are lines that appear from loss of skin elasticity. As we age, we lose collagen which is one of the building blocks of our skin. These lines usually appear on the cheeks, around the mouth and the neck.

Anti-wrinkle injection, is an injectable prescription-only medicine available in many brands. Furthermore, these products are UK licensed for use in adults for the temporary improvement of the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles.

Before and after the Botox treatment

During a consultation with our doctor, you will discuss which lines and wrinkles are concerning you and whether they are static lines which will benefit from a treatment such as dermal fillers, or whether they are dynamic lines, which are more suitable to anti-wrinkle injections treatment.

Once your treatment options will be discussed with our doctor, he will recommend you with the most appropriate anti-wrinkle injections dose and protocol.

If you are pregnant or currently breastfeeding you will not be suitable for botulinum toxin treatment and will need to await the period of weaning your child, before we can embark on a treatment plan.

The anti-wrinkle injections are done in our London clinic and are generally pain-free. The treatment usually takes less than 15 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.

You will be offered the option to apply topical numbing creams to reduce the slight discomfort associated with these injections.

Specific doses of product injected into predefined injection points.  Namely, around the muscles of the face where a reduction in movement is required.

Men often need larger doses than women due to their stronger muscles.

Anti wrinkle injections are completed in one treatment session. Touch up injections may be necessary in one to two weeks. Repeat treatments will be required as the effects wear off in three to four months.

Anti-wrinkle injections are administered with very fine needles, so most people do not feel them at all. A topical local anaesthetic cream can be applied shortly before we commence treatment to further reduce any discomfort. Moreover, Our doctor is an expert in pain management and managing any patient discomfort.

You should expect to pinpoint bleeding marks at the injection points that will resolve itself within the following hours.  The anti-wrinkle injection takes approximately 5 days to begin to take effect and reduce the movement of the targeted muscles.

Expect to notice the increasing reduction in movement in the days following your treatment session. During this time, you may experience a feeling of tightness in the areas treated as the product begins to work.

Some patients, especially those being treated for the first-time, report of headaches and aches associated with the treatment of the forehead and frown lines. A possible side effect named Ptosis can cause drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid. This is usually a transient side effect that lasts a week or two. However, this is a rare side effect. Our doctor is experienced in avoiding such outcomes as well as managing it, should it occur. This is a rare side effect.

After a week, the Anti-wrinkle injections will take effect and you will notice a reduction in the movement of the targeted muscles, such as those responsible for frowning, raising your eyebrows or creating crow’s feet.

This means that when you make certain facial expressions the wrinkles produced in those areas will be reduced significantly, or even cease entirely, depending on the dosage administered for your desired wrinkle reduction.

In the Rae clinic, we seek to produce natural-looking results and do not advocate a ‘frozen look’ that prevents the patient from expressing any facial emotions.

Skin will appear smoother as wrinkles will no longer formulate. Over time with repeated treatments, your skin will have an opportunity to recover from continued creasing, allowing your natural collagen and elastin production to repair the skin.

The effects of anti-wrinkle injections are expected to last between 2 and 4 months, sometimes longer, before it wears off and repeat treatment is required.

The cost of Anti-wrinkle injection will depend on the area you are treating. We usually focus on three areas – frown lines, forehead lines or crow’s feet. These areas can be treated separately or in combination, depending on the desired result.
