Polynucleotide Injections

Treatment overview

Polynucleotides are a different type of dermal filler made with Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN). An elastic, sterile, injectable, non-pyrogenic, re-absorbable gel, they belong to the new concept of regenerative medicine.  It is a naturally occurring DNA building block that helps to repair damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen production.

Polynucleotides are used as a temporary filler in cases of minor skin defects (shallow wrinkles), for correction of lip contours, treatment of fibrotic changes (medium scars) in various facial areas, neck, décolleté, palm surfaces, abdominis, hips and buttocks.

They are also ideal for preparing the facial skin for other cosmetic procedures.

How polynucleotides work

Polynucelotides are important tools available to regenerative medicine to counteract the aging processes.  Skin revitalisation is activated by the stimulation of fibroblasts and stem cells. The polynucleotide chain attracts water molecules, protecting against free radicals, acting as an absorber of OH hydroxyl radicals, which accumulate from stress, cell damage and UV rays.   Its hydration and anti-free radical activity help create the optimal environment for fibroblast growth, thereby restoring tissue elasticity.  Nucleotides, natural fractions of DNA and RNA, are components of PDRN with an antioxidant, protective effect. They are known to have excellent biocompatibility with human skin without immune response, making it highly suitable for skin rejuvenation treatment in most people.

The Treatment Process

Depending on the area, condition, and severity of the skin, one of the following will be used within your treatment:

  • PDRN Medium
Consisting of 2% high molecular weight polynucleotides.
  • PDRN Strong
Consisting of 2.5% high molecular weight polynucleotides.

Your skin should be cleansed in preparation for the topical anaesthetic or anaesthetic injections. You will either have multiple small injections into the areas to be treated or you will be injected using a cannula to some areas. Many patients will tolerate the injections with minimal discomfort during treatment.

The most common side effects are mild redness, swelling and slight discomfort after the first few hours, all of which are temporary.

The Results

Immediately after the first series of injections the depression or lines appear to be corrected. After a few weeks, these initial results will disappear but new collagen production is starting in the deeper skin layer. The final result may take several months to be achieved.
