Mr Riaz graduated from Nishtar Medical College, Multan, Pakistan and completed his basic surgical training in Nishtar Hospital, Multan for five years before coming to the UK and Ireland for post-graduation. He worked for another four years in general surgery and completed his post-graduation by obtaining Fellowships from different Royal Colleges. He started his training in Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery in England and Northern Ireland. At the end of this training he obtained FRCS (plast) and worked at consultant level in Belfast before returning to Pakistan in January 1999 to fulfil his ambition of working for the parent institution where no plastic surgery services were available. Mr Riaz established plastic and burn unit in Nishtar Hospital and worked there for three years voluntarily before returning to the UK in January 2002. Mr Riaz has kept his teaching and training commitments with Nishtar Medical University and is an honorary visiting professor of plastic surgery for the University.
Mr Riaz obtained his aesthetic surgery training through his NHS jobs which was available at that stage and also worked with his teachers in the private sector. Mr Riaz also went to Atlanta, USA to spend some time with very well-known aesthetic surgeons to further his experience in aesthetic surgery. Mr Riaz took his substantive consultant post in Hull University Teaching Hospitals from January 2004 and has been practising in aesthetic surgery through local private hospitals. Mr Riaz took aesthetic surgery as his specialty.
He has been Senior Clinical Tutor for Hull York Medical School (HYMS). He has been National Aesthetic Surgery Trainer for BAPRAS/BAAPS aesthetic fellows. Mr Riaz is a full member of BAPRAS, BAAPS, PAPS, BSRS, ISAPS and UKAPS/CAPSCO. Mr Riaz has been a Council Member of BAAPS and BSRS. At present Mr Riaz is President of UK Association of Aesthetic Surgeons (UKAPS) and Chairman of Consortium of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Clinic Owners (CAPSCO).
Mr Riaz has a few signature procedures including ‘R’ face and neck lift, ‘R’ breast reduction, ‘R’ mastopexy and ‘R’ temple/eyebrow lift. Mr Riaz also has his own approach for lower eyelid and midface surgery. Mr Riaz is passionate for teaching, training and sharing surgical skills. He has numerous publications and National and International presentations of his work.
Over the years Mr Riaz has been involved with charitable work through Overseas Plastic Surgery Appeal (OPSA) to help children with cleft lip and palate and has established a dedicated cleft hospital in Gujrat, Pakistan.
Mr Riaz has been practising from East Yorkshire, England but now after early retirement from the NHS he is available for his services from The Ghanem Clinic in London.
