Arm Lift
Procedure Overview
Arm lift surgery, also known as brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to reshape and tighten the upper arms. This surgery addresses issues such as sagging skin and excess fat, often resulting from aging, significant weight loss, or genetics. By removing this excess tissue and tightening the underlying supportive structures, brachioplasty aims to provide a more toned and youthful appearance, which will enable you to wear clothing that exposes your arms with confidence.
The Procedure
At your consultation we will assess your arms and determine the most appropriate technique to achieve the desired results.
The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia, so patients will also be advised to arrange for transportation to and from the surgical facility.
During the procedure we make incisions on the inside or back of the arm. The length and pattern of the incision depend on the amount and location of excess skin. For patients with mild laxity the minimal incision will be located near the armpit. For more significant skin removal the incision will extend from the armpit to the elbow.
We will remove excess skin and fat, and tightens the underlying supportive tissue with internal sutures. The incisions are closed with absorbable sutures that will be removed during a follow-up visit. Surgical dressings and compression garments may be applied to support the healing process.
Recovery
Recovery from an arm lift surgery varies among individuals. Typically you will be able to start light activities and return to work after 2 weeks. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 6-8 weeks. Complete recovery may take several months, with scars continuing to fade and the final results becoming more apparent.
Results
Arm lift surgery delivers significant aesthetic improvements, providing patients with smoother, firmer, and more contoured upper arms. The results are typically long-lasting, especially when combined with a healthy lifestyle. Patients report increased confidence and satisfaction with their appearance, allowing them to wear sleeveless clothing without hesitation. Patients are encouraged to maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle to preserve the results.
While brachioplasty offers substantial benefits, it’s important to have realistic expectations and understand that scars, though they fade over time, will be present.
