LED PHOTOTHERAPY
Treatment overview
LED Phototherapy is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate cellular activity and promote skin rejuvenation. LED light therapy is mainly focused on skincare, promoting anti-aging effects and reducing inflammation. The benefits include an increase in the amount of collagen in the skin, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of aging. LED light therapy is also useful in treating conditions including acne, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, scarring and sun damage.Â
The treatment is suitable for face and body and for various skin types and conditions. It has minimal side effects so is a gentle yet effective option for those seeking skin rejuvenation without downtime.
Treatment Benefits
LED Phototherapy offers a number of benefits for the skin, making it a popular and versatile treatment in dermatology and skincare.
Stimulates Collagen Production
Red LED light stimulates the production of collagen, a crucial protein that contributes to skin elasticity and firmness. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Reduces Inflammation
Both red and near-infrared LED light have anti-inflammatory properties, making them effective in calming and soothing irritated skin. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea or redness.
Promotes Healing
Near-infrared LED light penetrates deeper into the skin, promoting faster healing and cellular regeneration. It can be helpful in reducing the recovery time after certain skin treatments or procedures.
Targets Acne
Blue LED light has antibacterial properties that can help kill the bacteria associated with acne. It is a non-invasive way to manage and improve acne-prone skin.
Enhances Skin Tone and Texture
LED Phototherapy can contribute to a more even skin tone by reducing hyperpigmentation and promoting a smoother texture.
Boosts Circulation
The light energy from LEDs enhances blood circulation, which can contribute to healthier skin by ensuring a better supply of oxygen and nutrients to skin cells.
Minimises Pore Size
The overall improvement in skin health and collagen production can contribute to reduced pore size, giving the skin a smoother appearance.
How it works
Different wavelengths of light, typically red, blue, and near-infrared, are utilised to target specific skin concerns.
Blue light penetrates the uppermost layer of the skin and is effective in treating acne by targeting the bacteria responsible for breakouts.
Red light penetrates deeper and stimulates collagen production, reduces inflammation, and promotes overall skin health.
Near-infrared light penetrates even deeper into the skin, promoting healing and enhancing cellular regeneration.
Individual results may vary, and the effectiveness of LED Phototherapy can depend on factors such as the specific wavelengths used, treatment duration, and consistency. At your consultation we can determine the most appropriate approach based on your individual skin concerns and goals.
Treatment Session
During the session you will wear goggles to protect your eyes. You must lie still on your back with the LED light therapy device above your face or treatment area. The treatment usually lasts about 20 minutes. LED light therapy is a non-invasive, painless treatment. During treatment, you might feel some warmth but no discomfort. You should stay out of the sun for a few days following your treatment session.
Results
We typically recommend a series of 6-10 treatments each a week apart and optimal results will be apparent at the end of the treatment course. We also recommend maintenance treatments every month or every few months.
